Vacuum Leak Testing for Welded Plastic Assemblies
The CSD leak test machine shown here is designed for negative-pressure leak testing of assemblies joined by vibration welding or ultrasonic welding. A vacuum-based test method can help assess the integrity of a sealed component without applying positive test pressure to the complete assembly. The suitable test method and limits should be confirmed for the actual part, material and process.
The system described for this application combines leak testing with a separate blockage check on selected spigot holes. This supports inspection of plastic duct assemblies where both leakage and potential weld flash or blockage need to be checked.
- Leak testing: ATEQ F620 leak tester with a stated vacuum test condition of −100 mbar.
- Vacuum generation: Atlas Copco vacuum pump.
- Blockage check: Stated application test condition of +200 mbar at 10 LPM on two spigot holes.
- Part volume: Approximately 1,000 cc, as specified for this application.
- Operation: Automatic and manual modes, variant selection and configuration through a touch-screen HMI.
- Part handling: Pneumatically operated jigs and fixtures, with emergency stop and safety interlocks.
- Traceability: Zebra QR-code label printing and a Technifor pin-marking system, as configured for this machine.
Final test pressure, acceptance limits, cycle time, fixture design and traceability requirements are application-specific and should be confirmed during technical discussion. The stated test values are not universal settings for every plastic component.
